Every Story tells a Picture

Led by Jo Hall

For this course we will look at how a line of poetry or piece of prose can suggest a drawing or painting. This may be an illustrative or more abstract interpretation.

Work in any medium or a mixed media approach. Autumn, followed by winter and Christmas themes will feature.

For the first week bring a line of prose, poetry or a song that mentions or describes a season; e.g. “Now is the winter of our discontent” or “Spring is in the air”. We’ll think about literal and more abstract ways of encapsulating the words.

Please bring your own materials as detailed below:
Your choice of painting materials
Drawing board plus table easel or block to angle the board,
For wet media paints, brushes, water pots, palette, paper towel
We’ll discuss materials and approaches to this subject at the first session so bring a sketchbook or cartridge paper and drawing materials (pencil or crayon) to work out ideas.

Tai Chi

Led by Clare Marshall

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese Martial Art, whose benefits are supported by modern research. These benefits include improvement in balance, posture, memory, sleep and focus. It also reduces high blood pressure, anxiety and stress. Breathing and gentle movements flow into each other, harmonizing the mind and body.

As a physiotherapist, Clare chose to become an accredited instructor with The Tai Chi for Health Institute, which was founded by a medical doctor, Dr Lam. Their programmes are beneficial for those with or without specific medical conditions, reduce the risk of injury and can be done seated and in standing at your own level of comfort.

The classes are fun, relaxed and suitable to all.
